Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Celebrate life!

Beginning with traditional Halloween festivities on Friday, October 31 – costume contests, trick-or-treaters, children visiting businesses in La Zona Romantica for candy – the weekend ends on Sunday, November 2 with a celebration of the lives and memories of those who have died. While it may seem contrary, once we appreciate the purpose of the holidays – eating our loved ones’ favorite foods, drinking their favorite drinks, reliving the wonderful lives shared – the traditions and rituals create a loving energy of memories evident in all who participate.

The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Despite the dreary name, El Dia de Los Muertos consists of graveside celebrations with vibrant bouquets of marigolds and heaping plates of favorite foods honoring lost loved ones in the ancient Mexican tradition.

Introducing exclusively at No Way José!, check out what will be the new NWJ! sensation this season: Mole Las Peñas. Created by our own Cocina de Amor, this delicious mole boasts local Vallarta ingredients and an amazing story of inspiration by our very own Chef Mario Ibarra. Try this crazily delicious mole at our Day of the Dead party.

See details below for how to join in all the No Way José! celebrations.

When you find yourself a little lonely for Vallarta energy, check out the live stream on the Cuates & Cuetes Webcam. Click here to view Los Muertos Beach, the pier, and happy people strolling. We hope it makes you eager for a return trip soon.

From the whole team at No Way José!, hasta pronto!

Abrazos – Julie, José Alfredo and the entire NWJ! Team

Who doesn’t love kittens?

purr-project

No Way José! proudly sponsors and supports the PuRR Project here in Puerto Vallarta. As one of the many organizations that work hard to make Puerto Vallarta a better place, we hope you spend some time getting to know this important project and the people who make it happen.

PuRR Project is a no-kill feline shelter located on one-half acre of land about 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. The shelter’s mission is to provide food, safe shelter and medical care to homeless, abandoned, abused cats and kittens, with the ultimate goal of finding loving adoptive homes for them.

At present, the shelter is home to approximately 150 cats and kittens. The adults roam free within fenced gardens allowing them a natural, safe environment in which to live. The kittens reside in the kitten nursery, an enclosed structure with an open-air patio.

The shelter provides specialized medical care, and enjoys a structured process for adoption and placement in loving homes.

An undertaking of this magnitude requires considerable funding. The shelter provides extensive services solely through donations, the items sold at adoption booths, and the fund-raising events throughout the year, including an annual pig roast, a fashion show and the very popular bingo games held in Puerto Vallarta restaurants.

The shelter has teamed with Superior Tours in Puerto Vallarta to offer guided tours to the PuRR shelter in an air-conditioned, 10-passenger van. For more info or to reserve a seat, contact [mailto]info@superiortoursvallarta.com[/mailto].

The PuRR Project counts with some of the most dedicated, committed volunteers in all of Vallarta, including Linda (Bama) Brasseal who holds the purse strings, writes the newsletters, and manages the website.

Pam Sullivan runs the shelter tour administration and assists with fund-raising.

Livia Hevia coordinates adoptions.

Marilyn Khan heads up fund-raising efforts. She’s the one who sends out all those emails about PuRR events!

In addition to these four, there are many other volunteers who tirelessly devote time and energy to keep the project alive. The shelter simply couldn’t do it without their cheerful assistance.

The entire PuRR Project team invites you to visit the shelter and enter into a heavenly space for cat lovers and wanna-be-cat-lovers.

Following are the adoption venues.

Thursday nights from 5:00 to 9:00pm in the Marina market.

Fridays at Plaza Marina from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

Saturday market from 9:00am until 1:00pm.
